The free scan checks one public page of your site, needs no account and shows its results on the page. An account scan crawls your whole site, sorts every cookie, tracker and pixel it finds into categories, and scans again on a schedule.
The free scan
The free scan is on the cookie scanner page. You enter a full website address, for example https://example.com. It is free to run, needs no account, and the results appear on the same page.
It checks:
- one public page of your site;
- the known trackers and third-party services in that page’s HTML;
- the cookies that page’s server sets.
It covers one page. Scanning your whole site needs a GrantCookie account.
An account scan
With a GrantCookie account, the scanner crawls your whole site and lists every cookie, tracker and pixel it finds, sorted into categories, and names the third parties that set them. Every plan includes the scanner, and it scans again on a schedule:
- monthly on Free;
- weekly on Growth;
- daily on Scale.
On Growth and Scale it also emails you when a scan finds something new. The cookie policy generator, which runs in your GrantCookie account, turns the scanner’s inventory into draft cookie policy text for you to review.
Side by side
- Scope: the free scan checks one public page; an account scan crawls your whole site.
- What it reports: the free scan checks the known trackers and third-party services in the page’s HTML and the cookies its server sets; an account scan lists every cookie, tracker and pixel it finds, sorted into categories, with the third parties that set them named.
- Repeat scans: an account scan runs again monthly on Free, weekly on Growth and daily on Scale.
- Account: the free scan needs none. An account scan needs a GrantCookie account, and sign-up needs no card.
Limits of an account scan
An account scan reports what it can reach on the pages it crawls at the time of the scan. It may not find cookies on pages behind a login, cookies set by scripts that load only in certain conditions, or cookies added since the last scan. What does the cookie scanner find? covers this in more detail, and the pricing page compares scan frequency and change alerts by plan.
